Foreigners filed 10,949 requests, 53% approved
ZAGREB – Foreign citizens filed 10,949 requests for purchasing real estate in Croatia from end-July 2006 to mid-November 2008, Ve?ernji list daily writes. The Ministry of Justice approved 53% or 5,822 requests. Furthermore, 2,327 requests were denied due to incomplete documentations with 481 requests withdrawn and 1,236 unprocessed. Foreign citizens whose requests were denied can reapply after minimum five years. From February 1, 2009, EU citizens will be entitled to purchase real estate in Croatia under the same terms as Croatian citizens. The same will be valid for non-EU countries with which a bilateral agreement was signed allowing Croatian citizens equal rights in purchasing real estate abroad.
