Sveta Nedjelja & Ivan Dolac

Sveta Nedjelja is the village below the highest peak on the island, Sveti Nikola. The village is 1 hour away from Hvar by motorboat. It is situated on a rocky elevation dominated by the island's highest point (Sv. Nikola, 626 m) below a cave with remains of an Augustinian monastery, which stood here from the 15th c. until 1787. Before the present century when they obtained their present church, the villagers used to worship in the old monastery church in the cave.

The village is approached from the Hvar beach along a winding path, which runs through a small pinewood. Sveta Nedjelja is a famous centre for the production of the best types of Hvar red wine (plavac) and is a popular tourist destination. In hvar real estate terms, it is an area of new build villa hvar.

West from Zavala and east from Sveta Nedjelja is the small village of Ivan Dolac. Dating back to the 15th century, the village's main occupations are agriculture and tourism, the same as almost all the villages on the south side of the island. These villages were called "plaže" (beaches). Therefore Ivan Dolac is a "plaža" of the inland village of Svirče.
